Happy Birthday To My Baby
Until this past weekend, I had no idea that there was still some confusion as to the derivative of my moniker, Amstaff Mom. Some, which will remain nameless, actually thought that maybe I had a child named Amstaff. Until they got to my house and realized that no, I don't have a child, and that I would never, ever, curse them with the name "Amstaff". The reason I am the "Amstaff Mom" is because I am a mom to an Amstaff. Otherwise known as the American Staffordshire Terrier. So no, I don't have a child. But yes, I do have a baby, and she was born 6 years ago TODAY, in Bryan/College Station, Texas. I'm not sure what she weighed, but she was ours before she was even born. We were on the list for the next red Amstaff that was to be born out of two litters. We were sent pictures (which I forgot to scan - RATS!) of her the day she was born, and she looked like a little red rat. But since then, she has grown up, and is now 55 pounds of love and muscle all rolled in to one sweet dog.
So, here's my tribute to my pooch. Happy Birthday Abby Gail!!!!
We picked her up in November of 1999, 3 months after we were married. She is on the left. Oh my goodness, she was the cutest little pup.
Just look at those little front paws on the gate.
And the wrinkles in her forehead. No, I'm not partial at all!
I don't know why I wore my glasses that morning, but I think it was we got such an early start on our drive to Hamilton, TX, where we picked her up. There was a judge there that decided which pups were "show" quality and which were "pet" quality. We had her picked out and were hoping to goodness that she would be"pet" quality, because otherwise she would be have been over twice as much. She is priceless though. So this is her first picture at her new home. And her first kiss. She loves kisses now. She really does!
She still uses this same dog bowl. Poor Eddo stepped it in twice I think! She definitely can't put both paws in it anymore.
We wanted her to have floppy ears instead of cropping them. Normally they would floppy on the side. Then they started curving in. Then one day, one of them stood straight up. Then, a few weeks later, the other one went up. They were never floppy again after that.
She used to fit in the kitchen sink for her baths. Now, not so much. No puppy shampoo for her, note the Neutrogena bottle in the background.
As you can see, over the years, she's been subjected to extreme torture.
She loved her play time with her best friend. Their tongues are out because they had just finished playing chase out in the front yard.
It looks like there is a backdrop behind her, but this was taken in my parents' backyard.
These photos were taken several years ago, so she's filled out a little more since then.
A face only a mother could love.

Oh Abby is a cutie. There were puppies at the school yesterday and it was everything in me not to take one home.
What cute pics and what a sweet dog you have, even though she does go crazy and kiss eddie like grown me should not be kissed by dogs and runs circles around the living room until I start to freak out that she may collapse.
Happy Brithday Abby.
She only runs circles every once in a while and has NEVER run that much EVER. But she was super (sumo) excited to have all the bloggers over!
I'm sorry you freaked a beak at her marathon running.
OH BTW - Like the new background and the suitcase markers - you've been doing some redecorating.
Happy Birthday Abby! I really, really liked her, I want a dog just like her someday, when I have a yard, and an oversized doggie door!
Happy birthday sweet Abacus! Give her lots of kisses and snuggles from her favorite aunt. haha. Cause we all know how much she looves getting kisses. Spoiled rotteness from her mother. I'm gonna be sick. :)
Happy Birthday to your baby! How precious! I love that you love her so much- Abby was blessed with a great home!
I'm not much of a dog person (except when they're stuffed ones), but Abby does look sweet. Happy birthday!
I especially like the pic in your parents' back yard.
Thanks everyone for the complements! I am a proud mom. She got a huge bone for her birthday and she was so excited. She starts licking her chops when I cut the plastic wrapper off and she sits there with her eyes all big and wide.
Thanks for the complements on the new site look too, K-T. Eddo took time out of his busy schedule to add some extras to the site. I love the little suitcases!
dzbscink - Ver iz za sink/ Where is the sink, in German.
She's ADORABLE.
i want to just wrassle with her so bad right now
so cute! abby is so cute! happy birthday!
also, i just noticed the new printed background, and the suitcase image at the end of each post. how long has that been up? am i way behind the times?
looks great!
Adorable! I didn't think you had a kid named Amstaff, but that does clear up the name confusion thing! Happy Bday Abby:)
Ohhhhhh my goodness what a beautiful little girl!
From one doggy momma to another! :-)
So, can my dogs and your dogs go trick-or-treating together this year? Because I am SO against dressing them up (but they look SO cute). My dog also has an excitement problem. And a licking problem. And a coordination problem. And just really, really, really loves everyone (unless you are scary). Really.
However, I'm a little disturbed that you subject your dog to those "BLOG parties". Uhmmm...what?
JLR: You know that you think that Gypsy Kitty is the cutest. Plus, Gypsy is your personal gardener. So, you have to love her more...
Hehe...
dhggzxrz = Dog Lovers!!
Jubal - she loves to wrassle. But mainly, play tug-of-war. Game.On.
Jes - Eddo just made the changes to the template last night. Are the suitcases cute???
Deals - she's not "subjected" to the blog parties, if people are playing games over at my house, then she is a happy camper. But no, I don't take her with me to blog parties.
Thanks again for the complements everyone! Have a great weekend!
It's fun to see your "Baby" and he is cute..... much cuter and better behaved than ours! Happy Birthday Abby!
