Prayer and Thanksgiving

I Thessalonians 5:17 : "Pray Without Ceasing". Why do I simply take this verse as a suggestion or a good thing if I had the time. Now I'm not saying that it means literally that I need to be praying every minute that I'm awake, but oh I could be doing so much more. When I really begin to think of the needs of others instead of myself, I become aware of the need to be praying so much more often. There are so many around us that are hurting. There are so many around us that are thankful. We are to "rejoice with those that rejoice, and mourn with those who mourn".

When I have been praying for someone, do I remember to go back and thank God when He has granted the request of my heart, or do I just go on to the next need or request. All too often it is the former.

Even the simple prayer of thanks for our meals is rushed or omitted altogether. It seems like a big reason for this is that we "know" that we are going to be eating our next meal, so what do we really have to be thankful for? But there are literally millions around the world that are praying, begging, and pleading for their next meal. And when they do find it, they are truly thankful. How much more so should I be who never has to worry about this.

As Thanksgiving comes around, a national holiday of giving thanks to the Lord for His bountiful riches, may we all stop a moment, give thanks, and pray for those in need. We would all appreciate somebody praying for us. Will you be the one to pray for them?

Thank you Amstaff: You speak words of truth here, and those words are a definite reminder of what we truly do so often take for granted.

I can always use more prayer and yes, I need to be praying more too.
