Speedskating

As I was watching various speedskating events last night (my favorite Winter Olympics sport, btw), I noticed that the female speedskaters have the most muscled legs I've ever seen on a human being. I read yesterday that little 95 pound Sasha Cohen can do leg presses of 500 lbs. Can you imagine what the speedskaters can do with thighs like that???

And how come the male speedskaters don't have the same girth on their thighs? I mean, they're doing the exact same sport, and their legs look very slim and trim.

Typical.

- Crush Walnuts
- Professional Wrestling stunts
- Open stuck jelly jar lids
- Tighten fire hydrants
- Break a Suzanne Summers thigh-master

i love that you ended this post with the word "typical", it made me laugh.

I noticed their thighs too, and they SCARED me quite a bit. Really, how do they find jeans or pants?

Men have arms that bulk up.

Women have thighs that bulk up.

It sucks, but I think that it is healthier to have more muscle mass down low than up high (better for your heart, supposedly).

Of course, my thighs are ganormous, so I just might be trying to make myself feel better...

hmmm... must be genetics. I think men can be wickedly strong without being muscular and bullky. I have seen small men bench press 400 pounds - and they are 1/3rd my size. I think for women it is definitely different, when girls have muscles they show - they may be harder to acquire, but when you get them they are quite noticeable.

I know! My thighs are big like that, but I can only do about 250 on a leg press. ;-)

jef,
that is hilarious..I almost did a nasal coffee shot put.

AM,
Women carry a higher fat % than men and also have a different center of gravity than a man (a man's is higher on the chest)

I think it's height, too. Men, generally taller, would have longer muscles, looking thinner.

By the way, I have now FOUR different sports I am going to take up..hehe. Boarding, ice-hockey, downhill skiing, ice-skating...

I think it has something to do with men's legs naturally looking bigger than women's, so that the extra muscle is more noticable on the women.
