Cha-cha-changes

Three, count them THREE of my co-workers (buddies) are leaving the company this week. BUMMER. I've eaten alot of cake and pie today to send them off, and it's always sad to see someone go. sniff.

I am SERIOUSLY considering going back to school to become a sign language interpreter. I'm excited. And nervous. But mainly excited. I'm going to meet with one of the advisors tomorrow to see how many of my credits will transfer over. Fun! I am truly enjoying signing. Really, really enjoy it. So, hi-ho, hi-ho, it's off to school I go.

That's the latest and greatest for me.

VERY COOL AM!!! Maybe we can see you at the front of the church someday signing for Tom! That would be SUMO cool, I could be all, "I KNOW HER!"

I'm so jealous. I wish I had more of an aptitude for signing. I really enjoyed doing it, I just never was very good at it.

I have so much respect for people who go back to school to pursue what really interests them. It's never easy to go back - it is an expensive and time consuming task. But, in the end, you get a chance to really change your life and do something that you enjoy and want to do (instead of doing something that you have to in an effort to simply "get by"). I'm behind you 100%!

additional schooling is ALWAYS a good thing, IMHO. Too bad about the coworkers leaving: do they know something that YOU don't?

If I ever do a total career shift I think it's going to be funeral director/embalmer or EMT. I'm liking the funeral director/embalmer more and more. No complaints.

Sending a few prayers up that your credits will transfer! My thesis of my first Masters was on the transferability of credit in the US. So I know that prayers are needed! ;)

Thanks everyone for the encouragement!! I really appreciate it. I didn't get to meet with the advisor after all today, and I was SUMO disappointed. I spent over an hour in traffic and by the time I got there, it was too late. I hope to go back over there in the next couple of weeks.

Jef - I think it takes a special kind of person to work in a funeral home. Sympathetic enough for the families of the deceased, but calloused enough to see dead people all the time. Especially in tragedies. Not me. I'll stick with signing.

I hope to use my love for signing for a lot of different things. We'll wait and see what all those things are!

YOU SHOULD TOTALLY DO THAT. I mean, you know, if it's what God wants for you. But if you did do that, and I'm not saying you have to, then you could teach me sign language, which I've always wanted to learn my WHOLE LIFE. No pressure or anything.

Seriously, though, we'll pray about it. Even if that field doesn't have great job security or pay (I don't have any idea), how awesome to love what you do! And you'd feel so helpful, too, which would be wonderful. I say go for it.

Actually, research has shown that Sign Language interpreting is in exceedingly high demand. Laws are constantly changing that require more and more places to have interpreters available. Since the Americans with Disabilities Act passed in 1990, the need for skilled and qualified interpreters has increased and will continue to grow dramatically. The demand for trained interpreters far exceeds the supply. Top interpreters can make around $30/hr., you design your own work schedule, you can pick where and when you want to work etc. Truly one of the most up and coming careers out there today!
